Diablo III?

What comes to mind if someone were to mention Blizzard Entertainment? For many people, it would likely be World of Warcraft. For others, Diablo or StarCraft. Regardless, most Blizzard fans agree, Diablo III is probably inevitable. And if not, it would be a terrible crime.

Let's look at some recent indications about Diablo III's future.

First, there's this highly speculated rumor that someone has already developed music for Diablo III. Never mind that he would have to break a very serious NDA to even suggest that he had.

One of the best indications may be this announcment. A senior programmer of both Diablo games has been hired at Blizzard North. The North studio, is, by the way, where Diablo was born and developed.

Conversely, there are those that spin a different tale about Diablo III.

How about this strangely rumored tidbit that Blizzard was indeed working on D3, but scrapped it.

And then, sadly, there's this odd blurb that an official Blizzard PR person said, quite simply, that all the rumors are false.

Even though I would personally love to see another Diablo game, most indications point to an end of the line for the series. Blizzard North is joining its South team and most of the buzz around the upcoming BlizzCon expo is about a World of Warcraft expansion (which, quite honestly is a no-brainer). Some of the job postings at Blizzard specifically mention gaming consoles (PS2, Xbox, etc), which further reveals the direction they are taking.

Quake to the Quad Power

We've been having a total blast playing Quake II and now Quake III with the kids. While playing Quake III, some people have made their way into our server to play a few rounds with us and it's been extremely fun.

Why all this Quake nostalgia? Quake 4 is coming, very soon! So far, all the ship dates I have seen are targeted for October or November. I wouldn't be surprised, but if you follow the gaming world, you know that delays happen constantly.

The new game is based on the Doom 3 engine and I'm very happy to say that Raven Software is Quake 4's developer. Some of my favorite games include ones they have made (Hexen, Heretic, etc). They are masters of taking an existing engine to the limit.

While we build our new Quake directories, check out the following articles concerning Quake 4: Gamedaily Preview, GameInformer Story, Telefragged Preview, and a ton of screenshots from IGN.
